Most of what we think we know about energy usage is either wrong or drastically underestimated/overestimated.

This leads to magical thinking about how we can have energy without fossil fuel. It is possible to have abundant, reliable, stable, affordable energy without fossil fuel. But magic has nothing to do with it.

I help clients develop strategies to navigate the treacherous energy & environment policy space. This space is treacherous precisely because of magical thinking, which is is so ubiquitous that a broad consensus has formed out of it. Don’t mistake this consensus for truth and reality.

However, many consultancies act, talk, advise—and publish “thought-leader” articles—on the presumption that the consensus is right. You won’t get that from me. For the most part, the consensus is flat out wrong. What you will get is practical, actionable insight, based on data, evidence, common sense, and political reality, backed up by strong multi-domain knowledge and experience.

Nor will you get demands that you act on my insights and analyses. Often the political realities just mentioned exist for a good reason. The challenge in those cases is finding ways to navigate the space mindful of the internal as well as external politics, developing nuanced, flexible, adaptable strategies that recognize there are times to move and times to stay put and keep powder dry.
