The Canada’s Nuclear Arctic campaign depends in its entirety on the success of this effort, Canada’s Nuclear Sovereignty, which is very closely related. While Sovereignty urges a broad and fundamental re-think of Canada’s approach to nuclear policy, the immediate and sole focus of the campaign is on restoring, as quickly as possible, exclusive Canadian control over Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, our flagship nuclear R&D complex, which today is under the management of an American-led consortium.
Campaign activities
- Presentation to federal Standing Committee on Natural Resources on the risks of allowing American involvement at the senior CNL management level. See the presentation below.
- Lobbying the federal nuclear regulator to impose national security-related license conditions for CNL Class 1 facilities.
- Lobbying the federal finance department to impose national security-related conditions on foreign investment in CNL.
- Communications to individual members of the federal National Security Council cabinet committee urging them to re-consider the decision to permit a U.S.-led consortium to manage CNL.
